Marlene is the daughter of Dyne, a close friend of Barret. After Dyne's death
in FFVII, Barret took responsibility for Marlene and raised her as his own
daughter.
Marlene is a bright and intelligent child who is more mature than most children
her age. She lives with Tifa at Seventh Heaven while Barret is away looking for
a new energy source. Here she helps Tifa care for Denzel. She looks up to Tifa as
a role model.
Although personality wise, Marlene is more like Tifa, appearance wise she is more
like Aerith. She has a connection to Aerith, shown firstly at the end of FFVII when
she hears Aerith's voice, and during Advent Children when she is able to sense her
presence.
